Choices
When you make a choice for someone else, you’re not being fair to him or her.
I used to hear this all the time in the counseling room: “I don’t want to speak for him or her, but this is what I think they're saying,” or I would have parents that would tell me, “I know it’s their life, but this is what I want for them to do.” Both statements are unfair. When you speak for someone else, you’re taking control of their life. Their life is not yours to define – it’s their life!
