Bringing Value As A Leader Previous Page

How important is leadership to a company, an organization or an association?

Is Leadership a position, a presence or a job?  Reality is, it is all three, but the priority must be understood. Before leadership is anything is has to be a presence. A leader who has position without presence is simply a leader with a position. A leader who only has a job without presence is only a person fulfilling a role.

Richard’s thought that guides the information in Bringing Value As A Leader:

Too many who call themselves a leader think their value is created by their position; reality is a leader’s value is defined by their presence. The difference between the two is the respect their people show them.

Does that statement make sense to you? If a leader does not have the respect of the people they are there to lead, there is no leadership. There is simply a person with a position or a job barking orders at people. The result will be internal confusion that results from the lack of respect. In this program “Respect” is the central thought Richard deals with. Richard defines respect as having a presence that is present when you are not present.

Here are some of the thoughts Richard deals with:

• What creates Respect for a Leader?

• How do most Leaders lose the Respect of their people?

• What behaviors make people want to forget the Leader?

The meat of the program deals with answering the question, as a Leader, what can you do to create a presence that has a presence when you are not present? The answer to this question is examined through understanding the eight ingredients to establishing this presence.

Bringing Value As A Leader concludes with Richard’s 10 Presence Thoughts:

  1. When you know your value, you know your place.
  2. Presence is the feeling of knowing you belong.
  3. Presence is the power that generates respect.
  4. People respond to presence that is consistent.
  5. Personal power is the result of people respecting your presence.
  6. A part of presence is about creating mystique.
  7. Position is an illusion without presence.
  8. Your presence weakens when your passion diminishes.
  9. Presence is not something that is automatic; it is something you are developing.
  10. What you believe about you is demonstrated through the presence you take to others

Bringing Value As A Leader is a program designed to challenge the thinking of those who are either viewed as a leader or are being prepared to step into the role of a leader.
