This Is No Time To Let FEAR Control You!

I am in Phoenix as I am writing this article and was feeling challenged as to what I wanted to say to you. I got up this morning with my mind filled with all sorts of thoughts to work on, BUT none of them connected with my imagination. Then, from the TV, which I turn on for noise, I hear the words, “This is no time to let fear control you.” My mind immediately went back to the conversation I had with Dr. Larry Markson, one of our StarMaker 2009 platform guest, as we were getting ready to record a radio show. I asked Dr. Markson, “What do you see as the #1 challenge people are facing today?” He paused for a minute and said, “Fear! Richard, if you look at what people are looking at today, it is not the problems they are staring at. It is the fear they are bringing to their life that is the issue.”

As I heard the words from the TV movie, “This is no time to let fear control you.” That line is the message people need to hear today. THIS IS NO TIME TO LET FEAR CONTROL YOU!

Look around your life! Look at our total society right now and what is the overall emotional attitude that is prevailing? FEAR!

So many people stand in their business room and are FEARFUL of losing their job. Others, who own their own business, are FEARFUL of whether they are going to able to make it through the market transition. Every day they find themselves walking around in a world of uncertainty and that uncertainty creates a feeling of worry and doubt. What does that do? It just feeds their FEAR!

So many stand in their family room and are FEARFUL of losing their home. Most didn’t have a savings account they could draw from and when those adjustable and no-interest loans came due, they weren’t prepared. They never anticipated the economy would go through its readjustment time. They were left financially overwhelmed. This financial overwhelming found its way into not being able to pay their bills, put food on their table and have the money to sustain the lifestyle they had grown accustomed to. The result was them walking around in this world of uncertainty and that uncertainty has created a feeling of increased worry and doubt. What has that done? It has increased their FEAR, which has made stress a larger issue in their life.

Now, these people who are under financial stress have no extra money to go out and find arenas to relax. The lack of a Social Room has increased the conflict between those who share the Family Room.

When it comes to a person’s Personal Room, it is tough to go there. For most, they didn’t have a very large Personal Room in the first place. Now, when they go there, they come face-to-face with all the challenges that are flooding the other rooms of their life. It makes spending time with their self very frustrating.

FEAR is such a powerful force to reckon with, in your life. Why? I can give you four reasons.

FEAR increases your feeling of fatigue! FEAR is a thief. It doesn’t give; it takes away. What it takes is your spirit — your spirit and your faith in yourself. When that happens, you are left feeling overwhelmed and running on fumes. That will catch up with you.

Second, FEAR expands your feelings of uncertainty. Go back to the fact that FEAR is a thief! As you feel you are losing things you have worked so hard to obtain and then, out of the blue, things are being lost, you are going to feel uncertain.

Third, FEAR allows negative feelings to increase. This is one of the major ways that fear will attack. You can’t feel FEAR without having all the other family members to come along – some of those members are worry, doubt, increased stress and the inability to relax. Each of these becomes another thief in your life to steal your spirit.

Last, but not least, FEAR repeats its attack as long as you allow it to. FEAR doesn’t have to be a permanent part of your life. It is in your life because you allow it to maintain a residence. Every time FEAR repeats its attacks, it strengthens its presence in your life. That is just going to weaken you even more.

FEAR is an emotion! That is what you have to learn. It is not something that has to be a permanent part of your life. It has power and presence because you give it power and presence. That is more than a statement; it is there, because you allow it to be.

To control the emotion of FEAR, you must face the fact that it exists. So many times I talk to people and I know what they are doing. They are not being honest with themselves about the power FEAR has in their life. They think that denial will keep FEAR from having power over their life. That misconception just increases the power of FEAR in your life. When you face your fear, you will slow your emotions down. The slower your emotions, the clearer you will be about what actions need to be taken.

To control the emotion of FEAR, you must entertain the need to accept change as a needed part of getting beyond this challenge. You must see what is happening to your life as a challenge. If you see it as a negative you didn’t need, it will attract more and more negative reasons to react. If you see the challenges as a doorway to something better, it changes the picture you are looking at. Rather than asking, “Why is this happening to us,” you need to change your thinking to, “What must we do to get through this challenge?” Now, I know that is not easy to do, but just the adjustment in what you are seeking to understand can enhance the result.

To control the emotion of FEAR, you must allow your imagination to have a stronger presence than your emotions. Don’t forget your imagination holds the answers to any challenge your life is handed. The challenge is — you allow things to get caught up in your emotions and as the challenge is struggling to get to your imagination, it is being choked and stifled. You must slow down! You must not allow your emotions to keep a choke hold on you. Free your imagination to show you the solution; trust that there is an answer. There is ALWAYS an answer, but there are not always people seeking the answer. FEAR has the ability to cloud the pathway and make you feel there is no way out. That is a lie and you must not accept it as truth. Slow down! Trust your self.

To control the emotion of FEAR, you must reach out to people who can lead you to clarity. What I see today is the number of people who are turning to people who are just as lost as they are. These people can’t help you find the clear path. Too many are stopping when they run into the first roadblock. When there seems to be no direction, they throw in the towel and quit. There is always an answer, but not all people can show you the clear path to it. There is always more than one option! Many times the needed option is not the first one; many times it is the second or third choice, BUT if you stop before you get there, you won’t find it. Slow down! Look around your life; find those who are standing there with clear direction and reach out to them.

FEAR is an emotion that only has as much power as you allow it to have.

There is always an option that will take you to clarity; find it!

Thinking Leadership

It is amazing how many leaders are reacting to today’s market through the eyes of fear, rather than in their confidence to lead. Maybe there is a real message here — many who have been given the power to lead have chosen to be a participant, rather than a leader.

That is challenging to think it could be, but when you see what is happening with many businesses, that is what I see happening. These so-called “leaders” have lost their desire to take a risk and have decided that survival is the path to take.

In any economy that is in transition, the need from leadership is to stand tall, put their big-boy pants on and keep their eye on what needs to be done, rather than on what they think is going on. Leadership that gives into FEAR is no longer leadership; they become a participant.

There is always business to be done, but in a transitional market FEAR must not become the emotion of choice. Being a RISK TAKER must be the pathway of choice. Leadership takes imagination; participation takes making FEAR the guiding force.

Thinking Sales

If a person who is in sales thinks there are not sales to be made, guess what? There are no sales for that salesperson to make.

If a person who is in sales feels it is a tough market, guess what? It is a really tough market.

If a person in sales has never been through a transitional market, guess what is going to happen? They are going to show up without any plan to create business.

If a salesperson is grounded in the emotion of FEAR, they are not prepared to create a presence that allows sales to happen. Salespeople need to understand that the lack of mental sharpness strengthens the FEAR they have. A salesperson’s worst enemy is FEAR! That FEAR shuts down their belief that they can create business. When that happens, the salesperson takes a seat on the bench of uncertainty and just waits! A waiting salesperson is not a salesperson; they are just a person with a position and no confidence in their ability. FEAR is such a powerful enemy.

Those who know me know how excited I get about StarMaker. To me this is such a powerful three days of learning. For 20 years I have taken it upon myself to develop, research the information, write the program and deliver the material.

StarMaker 2009 is going to be a departure from the standard in many ways, but the biggest is the platform presentations. As I determined what I wanted to achieve, I realized I couldn’t accomplish the depth of learning I wanted to achieve on my own. The theme for StarMaker 2009 is Getting Healthy From The Inside Out!

I know the economy is playing havoc with most people’s lives. The result has been an increase in one’s personal stress. That stress is affecting people emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritual. What people need is a time of emotional calming.

Understanding this need for emotional calming, I have reached out to two people from the world medicine that I respect very much – Dr. Larry Markson and Dr. Scott Becker. These two are going to join me on platform and bring their expertise and crusade for helping people and share what it means to have a healthy life in all areas.

You won’t want to miss this powerful weekend — July 17th-19th at the Williamsburg Lodge in historic Williamsburg, Virginia. This is more than another weekend experience; this is a weekend that can make a difference in your understanding of what it means to really live.

I want to take a moment to share with you the value of the Morning Minute. I find that it is quite refreshing to start my day by seeing the Morning Minute as it creates an added "focus" for me to carry throughout the day. I look forward to getting these each day and will plan to subscribe to this program for many many years. I also save every version and I go back to listen to these in a quiet setting (whereby at times, I will listen to 10-12 Morning Minutes at a time) to get a full dosage impact (at times). The Morning Minute and a cup of coffee is the best way to start my day both life-wise and business-wise. I love it!

I look forward to your Morning Minute Words of Wisdom every day. I tend to lose focus on a regular basis, and your words help me to look deeper, and keep me focused on what is important in my life as I work to make each day better than the last.

With Sincere Thanks,

Tom from Texas

It helps me to start my day by concentrating on working on solutions to issues 90% of the time and solving problems 10% of the time. The positiveness of the Morning Minute that Richard brings to me every morning before I start my day gets me going and keeps me going throughout each day. I have yet to have a day in which I could not apply his message to my life. Thank you Richard!
