Why Can’t We Get Beyond This?

I will bet you it is one of those things that grabs you on a consistent basis. It is an everyday part of life. You know it is a challenge; you talk about needing to stop doing it, BUT it is still there staring you in the face and causing turmoil in your life. What am I talking about? That thing called Procrastination!

Do you ever find yourself challenged by it? How many stacks do you look at and then give yourself permission to just leave them there? How many conversations have you had with yourself and with others about the fact you need to stop your procrastinating? I would think some of you have even made your need to stop procrastinating one of your New Year Resolutions.

Do you realize what Procrastinating does to you? As long as you procrastinate, you must repeat yesterday.

Procrastinating will:

  • Provide you with emotional challenges
  • Repeat yesterday
  • Open you to unnecessary conflict
  • Compound confusion
  • Refuse to allow you to grow
  • Allow negative space
  • Steal from others
  • Take respect away from you
  • Increase your personal stress
  • Negate the good that might be happening
  • Alter the journey
  • Test your level of commitment
  • Exhaust you in the long run

Can you see where procrastination will keep you from moving forward? It is important you understand that procrastination is a by-product. It is not a stand alone behavior. It is the result of your top enemies coming together—confusion creates fear, which results in doubt that then creates disorganization that together steals your desire, which drains your spirit. When this all comes together, you will stare, lack energy and procrastinate.

Have you ever lived this way? How many times has your procrastination just added to your stress?

So, the question is, How Do You Control The Behavior Of Procrastination? Understand, you will never completely eliminate procrastination, BUT you can control your tendency to procrastinate.

To control procrastination:

  • Completion must be the crusade
    • What you don’t complete, has continuation.
  • Organization must be in place
    • Without organization you will be scattered.
  • Never create stacks
    • Stacks steal energy and leave you empty.
  • Time must be respected
    • Time is consistent, you are not.
  • Refuse to live in tomorrow
    • Tomorrow is an illusion you don’t have.
  • Open yourself to help
    • Without help you will lack clarity.
  • Look at the depth of your commitment
    • Your commitment defines your desire.

Procrastinating is a choice. Simply stated, procrastination is the behavior of avoidance. Anything you avoid doesn’t go away; it just creates another emotional stack that keeps stealing energy. It creates that mental question, When are you going to go back and complete what you started? Anything that is not completed has continuation. It is the continuation that steals your focus, steals your energy and makes it okay to wait!

If you really are serious about improving your life, you must realize the power of procrastination that makes waiting an acceptable behavior.

Thinking Leadership

A common challenge I see with many managers is their relationship with those they are there to manage. When I am doing a leadership program, I will at some point make the statement, “To really lead you cannot become friends to those you are there to lead. When you do, you destroy the mystic that leadership demands.”

The looks I get after that statement are generally ones of disagreement. Many don’t understand the need for boundaries.

How challenging is it for a person who has been “One of the group” step out of that world into the role of management? The challenge is for those who have been “Their Friend” not to expect special privileges. If there is not the separate factor between the new manager and those “friends,” the result will be the creation of a clique and the loss of respect for the manager.

What happens when this principle is not understood and the boundary not put in place?

  • Feel they don’t have to play by the same set of rules
  • Respect for manager is weakened
  • Inconsistencies will weaken quality
  • Emotional entanglements will prevail
  • No common agenda to build on
  • Disappointments become common

Can you see where the lack of boundaries can weaken the needed focus and create the distractions that take the grouping the wrong direction? The result is an unhealthy environment.

Thinking Sales

So many salespeople are struggling with this new economy they are in. It is as if they are paralyzed with the fear of uncertainty. Reality is — the economy is not the issue; the economy is doing exactly what it has needed to do – correct itself!

The challenge is two fold. First, so many of the experienced salespeople have had it so good, they have forgotten how to work. The strength of the market has caused them to forget what it really means to sell. When the market made its correction, they showed up unprepared. The market that was didn’t demand the strengthening of Selling 101 and when Selling 101 was needed, the knowledge had been filed away; that left them struggling.

Second, many salespeople in this transitional market arrived during the height of the business. At this point they didn’t need selling skills; the business was there and all they had to do was show up. Then, the market made its correction and they didn’t know what to do. They didn’t have the experience of a transitional market; they hadn’t practiced Selling 101; they were paralyzed, without direction and lacking the inner strength and commitment to make the needed adjustments.

There is business in this transitional market, but it is not going to come looking for the salesperson; it has to be searched out and that means back to the basics of selling.

How important is your health to you?

Do you treat it with respect or take it for granted?

Too many just take their health for granted; they don’t get regular check-ups; they believe if they exercise and eat pretty good, they will be okay. The reality is — many of our health issues come from other factors that are going on inside us. You can exercise regularly, eat the right things and still be hurting yourself from the inside out.

This is why I have chosen the theme for StarMaker 2009 to be Getting Healthy From The Inside Out! StarMaker 2009 is going to be a total examination of your life from the inside out. I have asked one of the most recognized chiropractors in the United States, Dr. Larry Markson, and one of the most pro-active physicians in our society today, Dr. Scott Becker, to share the platform with me.

Together, we are going to take you through a mental, emotional and physical exam that will explore how you live, the unhealthy things you may be doing without even realizing it and give you a prescription for living well that goes beyond anything you have ever experienced.

Mark your calendars for July 17-19, 2009 as a time when you will join us in Williamsburg, Virginia. Our venue is The Williamsburg Lodge, which has been completely remodeled and will offer participants a vast selection of family attractions.

Our space is limited and we already have over 40% of our space reserved.
