A Personal Note From Richard
I’m A Dreamer
For twenty-eight years I have been traveling from place to place delivering my message of personal discovery and improvement. For twenty-eight years I have spent an average of 200+ days going from city to city searching for those who are truly committed to improving their life. When I first started, I wanted to change the entire world. I just knew people were waiting for me to approach their life with insights and information they could take, implement and move beyond their personal confusion.
It didn’t take long to realize most people are stuck in their limiting circle of dysfunctional behavior and as much as they say they don’t want to be there, they live each day feeding the confusion that keeps them there. Each day as I stand on stage and look out across the audience and see the faces of those who are interested in what I am saying, but scared to death about implementing what they know they need to do. It really isn’t that they don’t have a desire; the reality is their fear is stronger than their desire. As long as that is true, they will remain trapped in their circle of sameness. I hurt for these people because I know they don’t have to live this way; I know they have the power to move forward and find the freedom to achieve their own definition of greatness.
I was visiting with my friend and fellow speaker Bob O’Connor recently in Seattle. We hadn’t been seated long when he looked at me and in a very serious tone said, “I couldn’t do what you do. No, I don’t want to do what you do. I don’t know how you live on the road as much as you do. Hasn’t it gotten old?”
“Old? Yes, the travel today has gotten old. The lines, the attitude of people, the unhappy faces you see each day doing a job they don’t enjoy wears on me. BUT, you know what Bob?”
He paused and with a grin on his face said, “No, tell me.”
“I still love it. Am I as passionate as I was twenty-eight years ago? Absolutely! I think I am better than I have ever been on stage and the research and information I am writing is more realistic and implementable than anything I have every created.”
“Richard, what drives you?”
“Bob, this is my dream. I can’t think of anything else I would rather be doing with my life than what I am doing. It brings me a true sense of happiness; it gives me a feeling of fulfillment; it allows me to be me. I don’t know many who can say that about what they are doing. Most people get up everyday and go to a job, not to a place in their life where they know they belong. That’s the challenge with the lack of quality in our country today. We have average people trying to deliver quality and they can’t do it. Average people can only deliver average results.”
What I was sharing with Bob is the foundation to my motivation. I am living my dream; I get up everyday and get to walk into a world where I want to be. I get to do what I feel I was placed on this earth to do. Question for you: Can you say that about what you are doing?
When you are standing in YOUR space doing what YOU were meant to be doing, you don’t have to worry about being motivated; you don’t have to force yourself to do it; you do it because you have a love affair with your life.
When you are in YOUR space doing what YOU were meant to be doing you don’t have to search for meaning; the lessons are there and you see them and how they are to be implemented into your life. That is a great sense of clarity.
When you are in YOUR space doing what YOU were meant to do you don’t find yourself worrying about what’s around the corner or what the next great crisis is going to be. YOU are where YOU are supposed to be and that gives you a sense of calmness that controls the moments of emotional uncertainty.
This is one of the reasons I have chosen the topic Understanding The Connection Between Dreams, Goals and Achievement as the theme for this year’s StarMaker. I watch people everyday who have been given partial information about achieving success. What they don’t realize is partial information can only give you partial results. Most who stand and teach do so from a limited information understanding. What they are teaching is not wrong; it is just not the entire puzzle. If I only give you certain pieces of the puzzle, you can only put part of the puzzle together. You will look at what you have done and know there is something missing, but you don’t have the pieces to complete what you have started. That is what many who are seeking growth find so frustrating.
I recently did a program for Greg Stingerie in Colorado Springs for his customers. Let me share with you a couple of comments that were sent to him. I am not tooting my own horn, but only emphasizing the fact people are hungry today and go to most training events not expecting to get very much.
Greg,
I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks again for inviting me to hear Mr. Flint speak. One thing I did not expect is to have my eyes opened to things that will dramatically improve my marriage and family life. I feel like the information presented will not only help me to excel professionally, but make all of the difference in the world in my personal life as well. As you know, I am no stranger to self-help books and seminars. Mr. Flint’s course of study far exceeds any that I have heard or read to date! I am excited about the possibilities, as he addresses real issues where they really matter instead of just pumping you up for a day. Thanks again Greg, and if Mr. Flint is still in your company, please express my gratitude to him.
—Chad Kinkade
Greg,
Thank you for inviting us to the Richard Flint seminar. Over the years, I have been to many seminars covering the “Customer Service” topic. This seminar delved into an area that none have before. I loved getting down to the basics of understanding and fixing the “individual” which in turn allows us to apply all the other customer service tools that are taught. I found the seminar to be educational and entertaining. I would highly recommend this to others.
Thanks again!
—Dan Adam
Greg,
As we talked yesterday the class not only taught what it needed but you come away with more then anyone can even imagine that you would. You look at life and yourself in a whole other perspective and want to make things better for yourself. Richard Flint is man that is on this earth for a reason and anyone that comes in front of him will become a better person and there is no price tag to put on that. So I just hope I will be able to meet this man and here his words again. I can’t express the thanks and gratitude for Greg to be the man that he is and to put this class on for all of us. I would drive anywhere any distance to see this man again.
—Vince White
For any of us who stand in front of people we must do so with a passion for what we are doing and a commitment to bring value, clarity and a presence that draws people toward our crusade of challenging the behavior of people.
My imagination is alive with ways I can make a difference in the lives of those who choose to listen and implement what I am teaching. Do I think that is a lot of people? NO! I get asked daily, “What percentage of people do you think really use what you teach?” My answer is always the same – 1%!
I’ll say it again, “It is not because they don’t have a desire to improve their life. Their fear of what it means and what they will have to face is stronger than their desire.” If they ever reach a place where their desire is stronger than their fear, they will do it! It is not that the fear is going to go away; the reality is their courage will strengthen.
What is courage? I think courage is not the absence of fear, but the internal strength to act in spite of the fear. That is a giant step; that is the willingness to have a desire that is so great you are willing to step into the unknown because your self trust is standing on a solid foundation of self worth.
This entire process of self-growth doesn’t start with being able to write goals. Many write goals and they become a big part of their personal frustration and confusion. They look good; they sound great when you read them, BUT there is no internal connection point that gives them life and power. That is where your dream comes in. Your dream is the map where the journey will get designed. With the sketch you can plan steps that have meaning and purpose to them.
A goal without connection to your imagination is simply a fantasy that will exhaust you. Goals that aren’t connected to a picture of opportunity are simply words that are written, but lack the power of understanding necessary to bring you clarity. That means those words simply feed your confusion.
I am a Dreamer! I dream in bright colors and that color creates a passion that is translated into the stamina necessary to manage the changing terrain that I must navigate each day. Without that stamina, I would sit down and complain when things are not going right, OR give up and walk away blaming life for how unfair it is. I won’t live that way; I am a Dreamer. What does dreaming bring to my life?
Dreaming gives me a direction. I don’t have to stumble around in the wasteland trying to find the oasis; the oasis is in my imagination and each day I get to sip from its clarifying water.
Dreaming grants me a sense of reality. Reality is based in you believing in what you are seeking to do. When your dream is clear, you live in a world where personal belief abounds.
Dreaming gives me enthusiasm. How could you not be enthusiastic about getting up each day and knowing YOU are in the space where YOU belong? How personally motivating is that?
Dreaming allows me to adjust, as I need to adjust. The clearer I am on my direction, the greater my sense of reality and the stronger my enthusiasm, the easier it is for me to adjust when the course takes a turn. If you can’t adjust, you will soon find yourself lost in a world of uncertain pictures.
Dreaming makes life worth living. As long as you have a dream, you have a purpose for your life; as long as you are a dreamer, you will never get old; as long as you are seeking to live your dream, you will be free to achieve. Take the dream out of any of this and you become part of the 99% that show up each day lost in a world of sameness that robs their strength, weakens their spirit and steals their belief that life can be better.
I am not one who pushes people; I educate, invite and then leave people to make their own decision, BUT I want to push you to attend StarMaker 2006, July 21-23 in Asheville, North Carolina. If you are serious about wanting to see what your life can be, it will only happen when you understand the connection between YOUR Dream, YOUR Goals and YOUR definition of Achievement. If you are tired of traveling in that wasteland because YOU are trapped in YOUR circle of sameness, you will challenge yourself to be there.
This is not just a three-day seminar; this is the exit door out of confusion, frustration and a sense of depression that comes from the feeling of being lost and still alive. This is going to be the greatest WOW experience you have ever had.
If you want more for your life, this is one of life’s doorways to personal freedom. I hope you want this for yourself and those who surround your life.

Leadership Thought
Leadership is the process of moving a group of people in a direction that is genuinely in their long-term best interest. It is not about only thinking about the company. WHY?! Because the company is an environment of people. The strength of the environment is created by leaders being able to create an environment that will bring out the best in the people.
Leadership is not something that just happens. It is a process that demands:
| P |
Planning the journey |
| R |
Revamping the journey as the terrain shifts |
| O |
Orchestrating the movement in a timely and consistent fashion |
| C |
Clearly communicating the agenda to all the people |
| E |
Educating people on their part and holding them accountable for it |
| S |
Staying the course and not taking a detour out of fear |
| S |
Stabilizing the environment and not allowing confusion to gain control |
Everything in life has a process to it. Forget the process and there is no defined direction; without the defined direction people will create their own agenda and make that what they are there to do. If that happens, leadership becomes a reactionary force that each day must fight the fires the personal agendas create. The result will be an environment that fell apart from the lack of leadership. Ever seen one of those?

Home-Based Business Guide
Barry and I were talking recently about recruiting and he asked me, “How honest do you think you should be when recruiting someone for your business?”
My response was, “What do you mean?”
“Well, should I tell them the whole story or just the good part? When I was recruited, they told me about the rewards, not the journey.”
“Barry, it depends on whether you want to keep the person for a moment or for the journey. If you only show them one part of the story and they don’t get there, they will feel you have lied to them and in reality you have. I think you should paint the entire picture, so you are not building them up for a world of disappointment.”
This conversation creates a real point of controversy for many in the world of network marketing. Many people believe you paint the brightest picture possible; one that is filled with all the remarkable rewards network marketing can offer. You don’t really talk about the hours, the rejection, the no’s; you just tell them about what others have done.
Another group would tell you to tell them the whole story. Tell them the good, the bad and the ugly. Don’t play games in the beginning with them; let them know what you went through to build your business.
Personally, I am with the group that tells the whole story. One of the reasons there is so much defection is the story that is told is an illusion, not a picture of reality. If you feed me an illusion and that is all it is, I will be angry and walk away. If I tell you the entire story and you still choose to come on board, then you will understand all it will take to generate the result you are seeking. There is always going to be the good, the bad and the ugly. Tell me everything and let me decide if this is what I want. At least there is reality to build on, not an emotional mess to clean up.

Strategies for Successful Selling
How important is the message the customer gets from a person who represents the company?
I have a dry cleaner I have used in the Palm Beaches for almost six years now. I went there because they were convenient, priced right and seem to be committed to customer care. In the past I would go in and the racks would be filled with the results of people being happy with their experience. A few months ago the business was sold; the first thing I noticed was the people I had been used to doing business with were no longer there. The new representatives didn’t smile; didn’t greet you when you arrived and always seemed to be pre-occupied.
Lately, I’ve noticed the racks of clothes waiting for people to pickup are not as full as it was. I figured out why. I went in to drop off my cleaning and asked if I could have it back the same day, which is one of the things I found attractive because of my travel schedule. When I asked if I could get it back that evening, the young lady behind the counter said in a very stern voice without even looking up, “NO! It will be tomorrow afternoon.”
“That won’t work for me. I am leaving town in the morning and need to pick it up this evening. What happened to the same day service?”
“The owner said it was putting too much pressure on the plant and if the customers can’t handle that, they can go somewhere else.”
I bet you know what I did.

A Personal Thought from Richard
Everyday I remind people of my major thought for the year – each day you either choose to feed the confusion in your life or strengthen your clarity. Reality is, these are the only two choices you have. When you make your choice (and you will choose one), you create the journey that goes with it. I would challenge you for the next 30 days to slow your pace and before you make any decision, pause and ask yourself – is this decision about feeding my confusion or strengthening my clarity? If the answer is confusion, choose another path. See what happens to your life by deciding to only strengthen your clarity.

A Message From Dan Carapellucci
Unlikely Sources of Wisdom
by Dan Carapellucci
For a couple of years, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to teach a class on Diversity to young adults, usually 17 to 20 years old. My class was preliminary to their departure into the wilds of Arizona and New Mexico where they would learn life and work skills in a challenging outdoor environment. Self sufficiency and group contributions would both be required as they completed difficult assignments such as creating fire breaks in anticipation of our scorching desert summers. Once in these remote areas, they were committed to the job at hand and dependent upon each other for success.
Before their departure, my job was to help them develop personal interaction skills and consideration for their differences. Usually, this group was quite diverse including various Native American nations, African Americans, Hispanic, Asian and white. After our session, I always asked the youth to write a few thoughts that had been stimulated by the discussion. I received this note from a 17 year old – (his exact wording and spelling retained.)
“There is no such thing as “Equal Opportunity”. The phrase itself suggests that at some conscious level someone had to way and measure opportunity and reason that maybe all races are ‘equal’. If Equal Opportunity really existed it would be at an unconscious level and therefore would just be called Opportunity. (I may be wrong.)”
I saved his comment for three reasons:
- I especially love it when I gain insight from someone I am supposed to be mentoring.
- I love the strength of his statement about Opportunity followed by what I would call bold humility – ‘I may be wrong’. Maybe life would be better for many of us if we boldly displayed humility!
- His logic is simple and eloquent; beautiful to read from someone just entering manhood.
I received this pearl of wisdom from what I thought was an unlikely source because I asked the individuals to share their thoughts with me. As leaders who are used to directing the activities of so many, how often do we remember to go to unlikely sources for logic, understanding and inspiration? The greatest thing about being able to nurture talent is to discover that we have nurtured ourselves in the process.
